Electric fence sends 5-year-old to hospital

Boy injured after reportedly touching electric fence and flown to hospital.

ALLEGHENY TWP — A 5-year-old boy was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Wednesday evening after apparently being shocked by an electric fence at a farm in northern Butler County, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not immediately available, reportedly passed out momentarily after touching the fence about 7 p.m.

Emergency crews found the child unresponsive but with a pulse at a home on Parker Pike, also known as Route 58, in Allegheny Township where Emlenton Ambulance paramedics tended to him, authorities said.

The Parker Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene while the Eau Claire VFD set up a landing zone for the medical helicopter at the nearby Six Points Church of God of Prophecy.

The boy was alert again by the time the helicopter lifted off for Children's Hospital, rescuers said. His mother accompanied him in the copter. His condition Thursday was not known.
