Summit Township supervisors will hold a public hearing and consider adopting a zoning ordinance at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the township building, 502 Bonniebrook Road.

The township planning commission worked on the ordinance, which makes several minor adjustments to the township's zoning code, Roxann Stickney, township secretary, said.

“We just kind of tweaked it to fit the residents' needs a little better,” Stickney said.

After noticing several residents coming in to get variances, which includes a $500 fee, officials adjusted the map so that commercial districts, including those on Freeport Road and Route 422, match up on both sides of the street.

Under the ordinance, setbacks in the township's C1 district will be reduced from 25 feet to 15 feet, to allow residents to more easily put garden sheds in their yards, Stickney said.

Officials also added a sign ordinance which, for example, restricts property owners from putting up signs lit with LED lights in residential neighborhoods, she said.

Property owners will not be immediately affected by any of the changes, she said.

The township held a public meeting last week at Herman Fire Hall to explain the changes to interested residents and the ordinance may be reviewed at the township office during business hours.
