Man charged with possession of suspected pot

Dennis Goodwine Sr.

MIDDLESEX TWP — Police seized eight bags of suspected marijuana, a bag of suspected crack cocaine and nearly $800 in currency following a Friday night traffic stop.

Dennis E. Goodwine Sr., 43, of Butler Township was arrested on felony and other drug charges. He is free on $15,000 bail.

Middlesex Township Patrolman Bryan Costanzo was parked on Route 8 at Glade Run Church about 10 p.m. when he noticed Goodwine's sport utility vehicle while running license plate checks, according to court documents.

The officer learned Goodwine did not have a driver's license and stopped him on Route 8 at Browns Hill Road.

The suspect allegedly admitted he had marijuana after Costanzo asked him about the distinctive odor coming from the vehicle.

From the center console, documents said, Goodwine turned over a Ziploc bag that contained eight individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana.

The officer searched the vehicle and found another bag that appeared to have a large rock of crack in it.

Police searched Goodwine, documents said, and found him carrying two cell phones and two bundles of currency totaling $780.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Saturday arraigned Goodwine on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and driving without a license.
