VA to hold annual VA2K Walk and Roll

VA Butler Healthcare will host the 8th annual VA2K Walk and Roll from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16 at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center on North Duffy Road in Center Township and from noon to 1 p.m. at the New Castle Road campus in Butler Township.

The free community event is dedicated to supporting homeless veterans while also encouraging healthy activity. It includes a two kilometer walk (about 1.2 miles), and will kick-off at 10 a.m. with VA Butler’s Leadership Team.

Nationally, since 2011 donations valued at about $2 million dollars have been raised for homeless veterans. Donations are not required to participate but are accepted.

After walking, attendees can enjoy a low-cost lunch sponsored by the Employee Activity Association.

“The VA2K Walk and Roll is one of the ways we encourage our staff to adopt healthy lifestyles. It’s also a great way for them to help homeless veterans,” said Patricia O’Kane, VA Butler’s interim director. “VA Butler has participated in the annual VA2K event for the last seven years for a total of 1,679 participants walking 2,082 miles and collecting items totaling $13,264.96 for homeless Veterans.”
