Donald Roberts
Donald Roberts, 92, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital.
He was born May 2, 1925, in Charleston, W.Va., and was the son of the late Charles E. Roberts and the late Bessie J. (Sturm) Roberts.
Donald attended Charleston High School. He also attended Purdue University for his bachelor's degree and George Washington University for his master's degree and doctorate degrees. He worked for Marymount University, Hong Kong Telephone and C&P Telephone.
He was a Seaman 1c in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Donald was a member of the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., and the National American Glass Club, Pittsburgh Chapter. He enjoyed playing golf and collecting early glass and antiques.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Amy L. (Ronald) Uram of Butler and Claire (Dirk) Langford of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Uram of Coppell, Texas, Katherine (Joel) Caracciolo of Cranberry Township and David (Jessica) Uram of Slippery Rock; and three great-grandchildren, Connor Joel Caracciolo, Luca Michael Uram and Willabea Rose Uram.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen A. Roberts, whom he married Sept. 29, 1951, and who passed away March 24, 2017; one daughter, Katherine Roberts; and one brother, Charles E. Roberts Jr.
ROBERTS — Friends of Donald Roberts, who died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, will be received from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Merry Melloy officiating.Officers and members of American Legion Post 117 of Butler, American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and VFW Post 249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the church.Private burial will take place in North Side Cemetery.Arrangements were entrusted to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
