Slippery Rock University’s baseball team swept PSAC-West foe Clarion in a two-game set Friday by scores of 5-2 and 13-0 at Kelly Automotive Park.

The first game was tied 1-1 until The Rock came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Luca Fuscardo doubled in two runs, Mitchell Wood singled home one and Joe Campagna drew a bases-loaded walk to plate another run.

The four-run frame was charged to Clarion starting pitcher and eventual loser, Jeremy Frazier.

Fuscardo went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the game and SRU first baseman Tyler Walters was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Alex Pantuso earned the pitching win after striking out 14 and walking just one. He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings of work.

Butler High graduate Wyatt Daugherty picked up his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

SRU’s rout in the second game began with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Rock then exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth. The first four batters reached base via a hit and a Clarion fielding error fueled the onslaught.

Abraham Mow’s bases-clearing double was the biggest single blow in the frame.

Nate Torbich shouldered the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on nine hits in four-plus innings pitched.

Fuscardo starred again, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two more driven in. Tyler Merigliano added a 3-for-3 effort with a run scored and a pair of RBI.

Grove City High product Matt Gordon pitched six scoreless innings for the win, allowing four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Garett Goslaw, Clarion’s designated hitter and a Butler graduate, had one of six hits for the Golden Eagles (6-15).

The Rock (11-7) will again face Clarion in a doubleheader at the KAP on Monday beginning at 11 a.m.
