MARS — Teressa Wesley, Ariana Volkar and Claire Valentine, students at Mars High School, recently received awards in the Associated Artists of Butler County (AABC) High School Art Exhibit.
In the sculpture category, Teressa, a junior, earned first place for her mixed media piece, “By the Hands of Man.” In the painting category, Ariana, a freshman, took second place for her acrylic on canvas, “Jellyfish Lament.”
In the works on paper category, Claire, a junior, received an honorable mention for her colored pencil on illustration board, “Liquid Gold,” and Teressa received an honorable mention for her linoleum block print, “Chubby Wubby Baby Club.”

ASHLAND, Ohio — Christopher Georgiadis of Mars and Laurena Shick of Zelienople were inducted into Delta Mu Delta at Ashland University.
Georgiadis is majoring in finance. He is the son of Steven and Leslie Georgiadis of Mars and is a 2014 graduate of Mars High School.
Shick is majoring in fashion merchandise. She is a 2015 graduate of Slippery Rock High School.
Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Brian Papich of Valencia is a member of the team of students representing John Carroll University’s Boler School of Business that recently won the local Chartered Financial Analyst Research Challenge in Cleveland.
Papich is a member of the John Carroll Class of 2018.
The competition provided university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. The teams analyzed a publicly traded company; wrote a detailed research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation; and presented and defended their analysis to a panel of industry professionals.
The local competition included students representing 11 area colleges and universities. The John Carroll team will advance to the regional competition in Boston.

JACKSON TWP — Eighteen Seneca Valley School District instrumentalists participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Band Festival.
Representing Seneca Valley were Grace Connors, Hannah Downs, Eden Geis, Hiruni Herat, Kristina Johnson, Elizabeth Linton, Jeremy Love, Jeremy O’Connor, Miya Paserba, Anna Rickabaugh, Sofia Salgado, Kate Scanlan, Sean Scott, Carmyn Talento, Alina Taylor, Jess Uhl, Brian Vogel and Liz Winters.
District 5 includes students from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

JACKSON TWP — Sixty-one students represented Seneca Valley School District at the recent Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District Chorus and Junior High District Chorus festivals. The district includes students from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
The following students participated in District Chorus: Josh Bannon, Anthony Bayle, Caitlin Bliss, Brittany Brock, Lindsey Butler, Matt Cosco, Colin Domowicz, Cole Eckenrode, Marisleysis Gonzalez, Clayton Gross, Gavin Jackman, Ryan Lipscomb, Jakob Nehrer, Chris Noah, Rachel Palaski, Jordan Ritchey, Jena Sabol, Anna Stroupe, Riley Surratt and Emma Walsh.
The following seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in Junior High District Chorus: Allison Alexander, Paul Amado, Brooke Eckenrode, Grace Fawcett, Leta Hixon, Elisabeth Hixon, Trey Hixon, Sydney Hunt, Gavin Khilji, Natalie Matthews, Dru Merrick, Jessica Mihalik, Alex Mortier, Sam Panizales, Eli Peel, Cole Pfenningworth, Bernie Riley, Cooper Saniak, Greta Schmidt, Jonah Smeltzer, Owen Tekelenburg, Lidia Wazenegger and Caroline Zulick.
Ninth-grade participants were Sammi Carter, Trevor Elliott, Nick Folino, Victoria Hahn, Ryan Jones, Alex McElhinny, Sarah McKinley, Blaise Meanor, Jon Norman, Sam O’Neill, Randy Ramirez-Gomez, Chase Thomas, Giovanni Visone, Bryce White and Lauren Wills.

JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley School District sent 30 students to the recent 2018 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 Jazz Festival. They were selected by a competitive audition process.
The students were C.J. Blakely, Nicole Buchek, Allison Buchek, Rachel Covell, Andrew Cummings, Harry Foss, Jacob Geil, Eden Geis, Kyle Gragg, Matt Hefferan, Ethan Kiggins, Kyler Lin, Elizabeth Linton, Jeremy Love, Matt Miller, Jeremy O’Connor, Olivia Otway, Miya Paserba, Kate Scanlan, Colin Scott, Sean Scott, Rishin Sharma, Harrison Silvester, Ryan Sims, Irvin Smith, Carmyn Talento, Alyssa Tollerton, Myles Weaver, Bryce White and Tommy Zugell.
At the festival, students prepared a jazz etude and improvised over the chord changes of a 12-bar blues.
