BUFFALO TWP — A Freeport High School student was removed from the school Friday after allegedly making threats, according to a letter sent home to parents.

The letter, signed by Superintendent Ian Magness, Principal Michael Kleckner and Assistant Principal Patrick Scott, said that students reported to teachers that a fellow student had verbalized “inappropriate and threatening” statements.

School officials on Friday confirmed that there was no immediate threat or potential for harm to students or staff and corroborated the incident by talking to witnesses, the letter said.

The district is cooperating with local police to determine if further action is necessary.

“Notwithstanding recent events both local and national, serious, threatening language is never acceptable and we need your help to reiterate that message to our students,” Friday's letter said.

In an unrelated incident, school officials recently reported finding a .22-caliber bullet in a South Buffalo Elementary School classroom.

In a letter to parents following the school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Magness urged students and parents to take an active role in keeping the school safe.

“If you see or hear something, say something,” he wrote.

The Buffalo Township police department could not be reached for comment.
