Jackson Township passes new municipal boundary with Cranberry Township
JACKSON TWP — A new joint municipal boundary between the north of Cranberry Township and south of Jackson Township has been cleared by officials to take effect.
The township board of supervisors voted 2-0 to approve a joint ordinance that would establish the new boundary at its meeting Thursday, Sept. 17. Board member Chris Arnold was absent at the meeting.
Cranberry Township already approved the boundary at its Sept. 3 supervisors meeting.
“We’re at a point now where all these formal steps have been taken by our respective boards,” Chris Rearick, township manager, said.
With some slight variation, Rearick said the new boundary reflects existing and historical property lines where the townships meet.
“For property owners, it makes it much cleaner,” Rearick said.
With both townships in accord, Rearick said, “Our solicitors will take the next steps to make sure that the border is formally acknowledged.”
The legal process to establish the new boundary has been underway for several months, sparked by a new residential development, Kobe Point, being constructed along the border.
Since neither township has access to its original municipal charters, confusion followed about the development’s address. Property deeds, development plans and tax maps provided mixed information.
At a joint meeting in August where the new border was unveiled, some property owners attended to voice concerns about the new development. Rearick said that both townships have been working with the property owners since the meeting to address any issues.
