Harold Lewis “Ted” McKindree
Harold Lewis “Ted” McKindree of Butler passed away Wednesday on his 97th birthday.
Born Jan. 10, 1921, in Butler, he was the son of the late Silas A. McKindree and Blanche A. (Kahle) McKindree.
Mr. McKindree volunteered for the service and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army IRTC as a staff sergeant from 1944 until 1946. While in the service, his wife and two children lived with her parents in New Castle.
He graduated from Butler High School in January 1939.
He worked at Pullman Standard in the accounting voucher department and returned to work there in 1946 until 1955, when he acquired Bon Aire Propane Gas Service. In later years, he was in the real estate business.
Mr. McKindree met Georgia Ringer in 1938, then dated steady in 1939. God looked down at Georgia and Ted. He said yes, that's a match and they will be one “flesh.” They were married in Wellsburg, W.Va. March 22, 1940. After 70 years of marriage, Georgia died April 8, 2010.
Mr. McKindree was a member of St. Peter Anglican Church of Butler. He was a life member of Butler Elks Lodge 170 for 72 years and in the office of Exalted Ruler from 1961 until 1962.
Mr. McKindree is survived by his son, Gary L. McKindree and his wife, Judy, of Butler; his daughter, Georgia L. Litz and her husband, Vincent, of Butler; his grandchildren, Beth Gillan and Erin Linnon of Butler, Ronald Litz of Great Falls, Va., and Jennifer Petrus of Pittsburgh; and his great-grandchildren, Ian and Zoe Gillan of Butler, Connor Linnon of Butler, and Delia and Arlo Petrus of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Ethan Linnon; three brothers, Chester Lee, William Doyle and Delbert Ray; and one sister, Verla Arminta.
Mr. McKindree's greatest joy was his wife and family, and the blessing of “Teenage Love,” “Married Love,” and “Eternal Love.”
