David Dwight Phillips

David Dwight Phillips

David Dwight Phillips, 63, of Fayetteville, Ga., went to be with his Lord Monday after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 1, 1955, in Butler, he was a son of the late Victor Karl Phillips Sr. and Janice Phillips Larrick.

David graduated from Linsly Military Institute in 1975 and Westminster College in 1979, with a B.S. in secondary education. He earned a master's degree from West Georgia University in 1989.

David worked at Pathway Christian School in East Point, Ga., from 1983 until 1989. In 1989, David was employed by the Fayette County Board of Education and worked until his retirement in 2014. During those years, he worked at Fayette Middle School and Bennett's Mill Middle School as a history teacher and coach. He coached football, basketball, wrestling, cross country and track.

Countless lives have been impacted through his devotion to his career. David always considered his classroom and coaching arena his greatest mission field.

David served in various capacities within the church, including youth sponsor, deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He was always willing to serve where needed.

He was a devout husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. David was always an encourager of others and the biggest cheerleader for his family.

David is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Michelle Pontius Phillips; his children, Clarinda (Jamey) Trask, Eric (Jill) Phillips, and Bradley Phillips; his grandchildren, Levi Trask, Logan Trask, Landon Phillips, Leslie Trask and Benjamin Phillips; his parents, Harold and Janice Larrick; his siblings, Joel (Kim) Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips, Clarinda (Phil) Roe, Victoria (Mike) Kelly, Undine (Phil) Fader, Victor Karl (Karen) Phillips Jr., Eleanore (Joe) Dickey and Gordon (Janine) Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.

PHILLIPS — There will be a visitation for David Dwight Phillips, who died Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, Ga.A celebration of David's life and legacy will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, at Fayetteville Christian Church, with interment at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville, Ga.Arrangements were entrusted to Carl J.
