Shirley Arlene “Peg” Crissman Smith
Shirley Arlene “Peg” Crissman Smith, 85, of Butler, died Sunday at home under hospice care after a six-month battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Mosgrove, to Ottie and Emma (Brink) Crissman. She was a homemaker. She belonged to the North Main Street Church of God in Butler.
Shirley was very inventive and could fix just about anything. She loved her flowers, gardening, cooking and baking homemade bread. She loved to make apple pies, apple cakes and applesauce to which she gave away with pride and love. She enjoyed many trips to Florida and Arizona for the winter along with her sisters, brothers-in-law and friends. Camping and fishing were always much fun for her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Earl F. Smith; daughters Sherry (Timothy) Burka of Lyndora and Shawnee (Michael Sr.) Fitz of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughter Jessica Burka and her daughter, Julia Berquist; granddaughter Amanda Burka; grandson Ryan (Kati) Colteryahn and their children, Rylee, Raislee and River; grandson Jamie (Savannah) Colteryahn and their daughter, Hallie; sisters, Jean Hutchinson of Kittanning, Alice Bish of Indiana, Pa., and Nancy (Donald) Ray of Poldan, Ohio; and many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who were all so special to her.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Shirley; sister Joan Proffitt; and brothers David, Clarance, Shelby, William, Charles and James Crissman.
SMITH — Friends of Shirley Arlene “Peg” Crissman Smith, who died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington.Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matt Reitz and the Rev.
