Raymond J. Black

Raymond J. Black of Cabot, formerly of Butler, completed his circle of life by passing away on Tuesday, which was his 92nd birthday.

Born Oct. 10, 1925, in Butler, he was the son of the late Frank R. and Leota Wonderly Black Sr.

Raymond was a proud World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater aboard the SS Grace Hebard.

He worked as a chemist for Pennsylvania American Water Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1987 as a production superintendent.

Raymond was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, VFW Post 249, National American Legion, World War II Memorial and the U.S. Navy Memorial.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Frances Nietrzeba Black, whom he married Aug. 7, 1948; two loving daughters, Sandra Pumilia and her husband, Robert, of Butler; Eloise Hulick and her husband, Lester, of Butler; his brother, Donald Black and his wife, Cleora, of Chicora; and his sister, Wanda Strelow of LeClaire, Iowa.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Julie Procter and her husband, Matthew, Melissa Vissari and her husband, John, and Erik Hulick and his wife, Kylie; his five great-grandchildren, Jordan and Megan Procter, Haley and Olivia Vissari, and Ava Hulick.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank R. Black Jr. and Robert Black; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Hulick.

BLACK — Friends of Raymond J. Black, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778 and American Legion Post 117.Members of St. Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 12:35 p.m. Friday at the church to recite the rosary.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.The family requests memorial donations to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 146 N.
