A Maryland man charged with assaulting two staff members at Summit Academy reform school was sentenced Thursday to time served in Butler County Prison.

Kenan M. Johnson, 18, of Glen Burnie, Md., was sentenced to time served to 12 months in county jail, with credit for time served from May 15, by Judge William Shaffer.

Johnson previously pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of simple assault.

He was also ordered to complete six months of probation following parole, and his supervision was approved to be transferred to his home state.

Johnson was initially charged by Pennsylvania State Police with two counts each of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment after an incident at the school for court-adjudicated youth and young adults, ages 14 to 19, on Herman Road, Summit Township, on May 15.

Police said Johnson attacked two staff members after refusing to go to class.

Three staff members found the teenager standing in the hallway, not in the classroom where he belonged. When the employees tried to move him along, he allegedly screamed profanities, before the incident turned violent and Johnson pushed and hit the two staff members.

He was arraigned and held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail. He will be sent to Maryland on a juvenile detention.
