EVANS CITY — A young man is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl earlier this year at a home in the borough.

Richard R. Wells Jr., 19, of Evans City, turned himself in to police Thursday. District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned him on felony charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.

The Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department said officers spoke to the girl’s parents after they learned of the alleged sexual assault involving a child on Jan. 20.

Authorities interviewed the victim, according to court documents, and suspected Wells had sex with her. He was 18 at the time.

Police interviewed Wells at the station and he allegedly admitted having sex with the girl. He also told investigators that he knew she was 14.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 14 at Seibel’s office in Evans City. Wells remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
