FRANKLIN TWP — Moraine State Park rangers investigated a reported sighting of a flare somewhere in the sky in central Butler County on Sunday.

The flare was seen from the Unionville area around dusk Sunday.

Park rangers used their boat to search the eastern part of Lake Arthur for a possible boating emergency.

The Prospect and Unionville fire departments were later called to assist in searching the lake, Prospect Chief Ken Wilson said.

The Unionville department sent out a boat to do a search, launching from the Prospect Road boat launch.

No boaters had been reported missing and nothing was found by firefighters, so the search was called off around 9 p.m.
