Suspects waive extradition
A suspected shoplifter and the woman he was found with, both wanted out of New Jersey, will be transferred back to that state to face charges after waiving extradition in Butler County Court on Friday.
Trevor Green, 27, no known address, and Rachel E. Topping, 32, of Salida, Colo., will be transported to New Jersey following hearings before Judge Timothy McCune.
Green was arrested and charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance after an incident at Friedman's supermarket on West Brady Street on Sept. 23.
Butler City police said Green was caught inhaling the nitrous oxide from three Reddi-whip whipped cream canisters and then tussled with two employees when they confronted him. Police said the three individuals ended up wrestling on the floor.
When officers arrived, Green was found in possession of narcotic painkillers and anti-anxiety medication for which he did not have prescriptions and officers later found that he and Topping, who was with him at the time, were wanted out of Mahwah, N.J.
The charges in New Jersey stem from a traffic stop Aug. 17 on Interstate 287 in Mahwah. Police said they suspected drugs were in the couple's car. But they denied police consent to search the vehicle.Officers impounded the car and took the suspects to a motel while police waited for a search warrant to look through the vehicle. Crystal meth, cocaine, ecstasy, prescription pain pills, Xanax, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a machete and $2,000 in cash were found in that search, police said,But when police returned to the hotel, the two were gone. Warrants were subsequently issued for a number of drug and weapons charges.Both continue to be held on $100,000 bail on the extradition orders, until New Jersey officials come to transport them. Green also continues to be held on $25,000 bail in the robbery case.McCune also signed a stay order, halting Green's extradition until the local charges against him are resolved. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the robbery case before District Judge William Fullerton on Oct. 16.
