Man paroled on time served
A Butler man charged with injuring police officers while resisting arrest was immediately paroled on time served after being sentenced to county jail in Butler County Court on Thursday.
Joshua P. Luchkiw, 31, was sentenced to six to 18 months in Butler County Prison, and was immediately paroled on time served by Judge Timothy McCune.
He was also ordered to pay $6,245 in restitution and $200 in fines.
Luchkiw previously pleaded guilty on Sept. 6 to misdemeanor simple assault and summary disorderly conduct in two cases.
He was initially charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and resisting arrest after two incidents Jan. 8.
Butler police initially filed charges after they say Luchkiw attacked his girlfriend at the couple's home on Hickory Street while she was sleeping on a sofa. The woman reported that Luchkiw returned home drunk and angry and assaulted her, according to court documents.
She managed to flee the home and call for help from a neighbor's house. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for apparent minor injuries.
About eight hours later police were again at the home after the woman called to report that Luchkiw was back.
Luchkiw was found seated in a vehicle at the home and when officers tried to take him into custody, he resisted, documents said.
Police said he grabbed and tore an officer's jacket and kicked him before he was taken under control.
One officer suffered a cut and swelling to his right middle finger and another had a cut and swelling to his right elbow, police said.
Luchkiw was arraigned and held in the Butler County Prison on a combined $102,000 bail in both cases, which was later changed to nominal bail, which led to his release in July.
