CRANBERRY TWP — Aryelle Teimouri was supposed to leave Las Vegas on Sunday, but decided to stay an extra day to catch a show and continue enjoying the city.

Teimouri of Cranberry was in Las Vegas with friends on Sunday during the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Teimouri was in the Casino Royale Hotel & Casino when the shooting occurred just after 10 p.m., about two miles away at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, where the gunman was perched on the 32nd floor. The gunman fired on a country music concert, killing 59 and wounding 527.

Teimouri said nobody thought it was serious. Then a friend called who had gone home from Vegas earlier that day and said he'd heard there was multiple shooters in the city.

“I was on the phone with him and there was a wave of people who started running away from the doors because someone said there was a shooter on the Strip,” she said.

Teimouri said she hid with her friends and others in a janitor's closet for about 10 minutes before someone said it was safe to come out.

“That was two miles away and people were still running,” she said.

Because of the chaos and misinformation at the time, many of the hotels were on lockdown, including the Flamingo, where Teimouri was staying. So her group ended up at the Venetian where a friend was staying.

They stayed there watching the news until about 4 a.m. when they realized it was safe to go back to their hotel.

“We were in the area an hour before it happened,” Teimouri said. “That was pretty scary too thinking about the timing, if we had been there just a little bit longer and stayed longer.”
