BUTLER TWP — Police are seeking the unknown thief who stole a 100-pound cement bald eagle statue from a home on Ferguson Avenue. The theft happened Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

The statue, valued at $100, was on a tree stump near the front porch.

Police did not rule out that the theft could have been a two-man operation because of the weight of the statue. A vehicle also likely was used in the heist, police said.

Frances Sweesy, who owns the statue, said that she and her husband traveled to Ohio to buy it from a man who makes statues of eagles.

“It meant a lot to us because we’d been searching for a good one for some time,” she said. “We’d like it back.”
