A registered sexual offender who had been living in Butler is now missing.

City police Tuesday obtained a felony arrest warrant for Steven M. Pennington, 34, a convicted sex offender who is charged with failing to register at his new address in Butler.

Pennington's last registered address with state police was on the 400 block of Zeigler Avenue in Butler, according to court documents. But authorities recently learned that he had recently been living at a home on Shore Street.

City police this week went to the home but could not find Pennington or any of his personal belongings there. A neighbor reported the defendant had vacated the premises about a month earlier and moved to Florida.

Police attempted to call him by telephone but to no avail.

A Tier 2 sex offender, Pennington is required to register with state police for 25 years, and he is expected to report to a registration or verification site twice a year.

According to the state police Megan's Law website, he was convicted in 2007 for statutory sexual assault, a second-degree felony. County court records showed that he was sentenced to nine to 18 months in prison followed by three years of probation.
