LYNDORA — The Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau hired its first employee of the Butler County Tourism Foundation during an executive meeting Thursday at the Lyndora Hotel.

Mary Tate, a Butler County native, accepted the position, according to Jack Cohen, president.

Cohen said the new employee brings experience in revitalization and historic restoration, which is the purpose of the foundation run through the bureau. Tate was recommended by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which helped arrange the interview, according to Cohen.

“She is strong and knowledgeable,” he said.

Cohen said Tate will need time to leave her current employer, and a start date has not been determined.

The meeting progressed with updates on various projects and upcoming events, including an update on a television show that will film at Lake Arthur.

Fishing University will film and fish at the lake from Wednesday to Friday, before making an appearance at Seneca Valley schools, according to Cohen.

“They'll be doing their show there,” Cohen said. “(They'll be) teaching people how to fish and what kinds of bait to use.”

Cohen said the bureau signed a contract with the show earlier in the year, and the show will air 32 times within the next year.

While the lake will be occupied by cameras next week, Cohen announced that the bureau will assist the Moraine Preservation Fund in bringing a concert to the lake.

The preservation fund will take the lead in putting together a concert that could seat 10,000 and could have food and alcohol available, according to Cohen.

Cohen said the artist may not be signed until next year, but the bureau has some connections with enticing country artists.

“We are in negotiations with Brad Paisley, and if that doesn't work out, then we'll talk to Miranda Lambert,” he said.

Cohen said the concert proceeds will support the work of the Moraine Preservation Fund.

“We'll show off the park as something special, which it is,” Cohen said.
