BUTLER TWP — The second bomb threat in two weeks once again caused the evacuation of Butler Intermediate High School.

Superintendent Brian White said a threat was found during homeroom period on Wednesday morning in a rest room at the school.

He said students were evacuated to the high school gymnasium next door so police could sweep the intermediate school, which educates 1,500 students in seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

The police found no evidence of a bomb, and students returned to the IHS after about two hours, White said.

A group message was sent to IHS parents on Wednesday morning alerting them of the situation.

“It's both disturbing and disruptive,” said a frustrated White. “It's not conducive to learning, this type of behavior.”

The school received a threat on Sept. 8, and students were evacuated to the high school. The student found to be the perpetrator of that threat is currently going through the required disciplinary procedures, White said.

He did not think the two threats are related, but stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.

“I just hope this is the last time,” White said.
