Man facing rape charge
PENN TWP — Police allege a township man raped an injured woman earlier this month.
Lewis Lauschus, 63, was arrested Friday and arraigned Saturday by District Judge Lewis Stoughton on charges of rape, felony sexual assault and misdemeanor indecent assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Township police responded Friday afternoon to a house on Meridian Road at the request of Butler Ambulance Service, which was treating a woman there who had called 911, according to the criminal complaint.
The woman was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and emergency room personnel told police that she had scratches and bruising on her body, some of which appeared to be in the shape of a hand, according to the complaint.
In a follow-up interview with an officer at the hospital, police say the victim reported falling and injuring herself while cleaning a closet on Sept. 10. She claimed that Lauschus raped her after her fall and that she remained in bed for five days during which she would go in and out of consciousness and did not receive any treatment for her injuries.
A rape kit was conducted by hospital staff, according to the complaint.
Lauschus is free on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in district court Oct. 4.
