A Butler man charged with injuring police officers while resisting arrest pleaded guilty in Butler County Court Wednesday.

Joshua P. Luchkiw, 31, pleaded guilty in two cases to misdemeanor simple assault and summary disorderly conduct before county Judge Timothy McCune.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of six to 18 months in Butler County Prison, $251.60 in restitution and a fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 5.

Luchkiw was initially charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest, which was later changed to the simple assault count per the plea, after an incident on Jan. 8

Butler City police said they began looking for Luchkiw after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend at the couple's home on Hickory Street.

The victim told officers that she was sleeping on the sofa when Luchkiw returned home drunk and angry, and assaulted her, according to court documents.

She managed to flee the home and call for help from a neighbor's house. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for apparent minor injuries.

The initial simple assault charge stems from that incident, which was later changed to summary disorderly conduct per the plea agreement.

About eight hours later, police returned to the couple's home when the woman called about 2:35 p.m. to report her boyfriend was back, documents said.

Luchkiw was found seated in a vehicle at the home and when officers tried to take him into custody, he resisted, documents said.

Luchkiw is accused of grabbing and tearing an officer's jacket and kicking him before he was taken under control.

One officer suffered a cut and swelling to his right middle finger and another had a cut and swelling to his right elbow, police said.

Luchkiw was arraigned and held in the Butler County Prison on a combined $102,000 bail in both cases, which was later changed to nominal bail and he was released in July.
