Modern Gents to open performing arts series at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Performing Arts Series kicks off Sept. 15 with a performance by the Modern Gentlemen, a quartet that music legend Frankie Valli hailed as “the best singing group I've ever worked with.”

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in SRU's University Union.

The Modern Gentlemen blend the stylings of classic vocal groups like the Four Freshmen and the Hi-Lo's with the modern sound of Michael Bublé.

Their own signature sound marries harmonic perfection with high-energy dance moves as they perform some of the greatest hits of Motown, pop, rock and doo-wop.

The members of the Modern Gentlemen are Landon Beard, Todd Fournier and brothers Brian and Brandon Brigham.

All were in-demand singers before Frankie Valli brought them together as a quartet. For 15 years, they've provided all of the background vocals and choreography for Valli's worldwide tours.

The Modern Gentlemen also have appeared onstage with many of the other artists that they celebrate in their act, such as the Beach Boys, the Manhattan Transfer, Tony Bennett and Smokey Robinson.

For tickets or more information, visit www.sru.edu/pas or call 724-738-2018.

Other shows in the Performing Arts Series will be: Nobuntu, a female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe, on Oct. 25, and Shades of Bublé, a trio that performs songs recorded or performed live by Michael Bublé, with members of the SRU Jazz Ensemble backing up the vocalists, on Nov. 3.
