The annual Heritage Festival is planned for Sept. 23 and 24 at the historic mill at McConnells Mill State Park.

Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township will host a night hike from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Friday (meet at Moraine Outdoor Classroom on North Shore). Call 724-368-3612 or 724-368-8811.

Nautical Nature, the pontoon boat at Moraine State Park, plans to operate cruises on Lake Arthur at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28. For reservations, call 724-368-9185.

Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, has nature walks at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Call 412-963-6100 or visit www.aswp.org.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011.

REGION

McConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, will host the annual Heritage Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24. The festival, sponsored by the Portersville-Prospect Rotary, celebrates the operational time period of the gristmill, from 1852 to 1928. Arts and crafts, music and free tours of the mill will be offered. A Civil War encampment will have live cannon fire. A church service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24. Admission and parking are free. The mill is open through Labor Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily except closed Mondays. Tours are available at 1 and 2 p.m. Call 724 368-8811.

Star parties sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh are to begin, weather permitting, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park, Frazer Township, Allegheny County. Call 724-224-2510.
