[naviga:h3]‘Barefoot’ run extended[/naviga:h3]

ALLEGHENY TWP, Westmoreland County — Due to the loss of two performances this past weekend because of a power outage, Freeport Theatre Festival is extending the run of Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” to include added performances.

The shows will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the theater on the Steele Farm, 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and less for senior citizens, members of the military, and students. Call 724-295-1934 for more information.

[naviga:h3]Music groups take members[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County String Symphonette, made up of students and adults from around Butler County, is accepting new members.

In addition to performing, this group went to a competition at Cedar Point last year.

Members of another group, the Gold and Silver Strolling Strings, memorize their music and walk around while performing. The Strolling Strings perform about once a month at venues such as weddings, charity events, church socials and retirement homes.

Both groups rehearse from September through May at the St. Fidelis church hall, 125 Buttercup Road.

ZELIENOPLE — The 33rd annual Country Fall Festival, sponsored by the Zelienople Area Business Association, will be Oct. 14 and 15.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 along Main Street and Four Corners Park and in Harmony.

The event will include family entertainment, pony rides and other children’s activities, live music, food, arts and crafts, history tours, a chili cookoff, and pumpkin carving, among other things.

[naviga:h3]Celebrity series changes acts[/naviga:h3]

NEW WILMINGTON — Due to back surgery, Ben Vereen has had to cancel his Sept. 16 show date in the Celebrity Series at Westminster College.

Replacing that show will be Broadway’s “The Four Phantoms” on Sept. 30.

The show features four leading men in their performances as The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.”
