Malcolm George Weaver
Malcolm George Weaver, retired lieutenant colonel, of Alexandria, Va., passed away peacefully June 28 after a long battle with numerous illnesses.
He was the beloved husband of 47 years of Cheryl “Cheri” Edwards Weaver; the loving father of his son, Christopher, and his daughter, Lauren (Tim); and the adoring grandfather to Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his father, George McDonald Weaver, and his mother, Florence Thrower Weaver.
He also is survived by his brothers, Roger Weaver (Vivian) and Forrest Weaver (Debra); his sister, Joanne Lucarelli (Lou); and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Malcolm graduated in 1965 from Knoch High School in Saxonburg and Penn State University in 1969, with a major in accounting. Throughout that time, Malcolm was active in ROTC and the Pershing Rifles Precision Rifle Drill Team. He also attended the Army War College and attained a master's degree from George Washington University.
In 1970, he married Cheri, his college sweetheart and was stationed in Germany after being commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army. He served 22 years in the Army — with tours at multiple posts in the U.S., Europe and Asia — and ended his career with the Adjutant General Corps. Following a brief first retirement, he then spent 22 years in the federal government working at the Defense Information Systems Agency, retiring in 2014.
In addition to his love for his family and friends, Malcolm enjoyed traveling, baseball, gardening, genealogy and was an active member at the Grace Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, choir member and on various committees. He traveled extensively through Europe and the U.S., visiting nearly all 50 states.
