CONNOQUENESSING TWP — The Butler Farm Show is slated for Aug. 7 to 12 at the Farm Show grounds, Route 68.
Gates will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
In addition to all the farm exhibits, events include pulling contests, demolition derbies, demonstrations, and musical performances by The Rumblers, Echo Valley, Thorn Haven, Allegheny Drifters, and David Allen and the Roadworks Band.

[naviga:h3]One-act plays this weekend[/naviga:h3]
BUTLER TWP — Performances of two original one-act plays by Butler native Don Orwald will take place this weekend in Preston Park, 415 S. Eberhart Road.
The first script deals with the creation of the Bantam Jeep at the American Bantam Car Works and is set in Butler in 1940. The second script deals with the Monument Men, the soldiers chosen to find and preserve the great works of art stolen by the Nazis during the war.
The shows will go on at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the park. Take a blanket or a lawn chair. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the gate. Butler Little Theatre’s 77th season has been announced and includes five plays.

FOXBURG — Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts presents Music in the Meadow on Aug. 13 at RiverStone Farm, 352 Foxview Road.
John Burgh & His Big Band Orchestra will be playing at 6 p.m.

PORTERSVILLE — The Portersville Steam Show will have its summer show today through Sunday at the show grounds, Route 19.
Featured will be Massey Harris tractors and equipment.
Planned activities include tractor pulls, a king of the mountain event, music and dancing.
The gate opens at 8 a.m.
Admission is $5; children 11 and younger are admitted free.

MUDDY CREEK TWP — The 19th annual Regatta at Lake Arthur is set for Saturday and Sunday at Moraine State Park.
Activities include a DockDogs contest, car cruise, races, catamaran rides, yoga, and at 9 p.m. Saturday, fireworks.
Entertainment will include performances on Saturday by Todd Wehr, Brother from Another Mother, Steeltown Horns, Habatat, Good Old Ernie, Jimbo and the Soupbones and Nied’s Hotel Band; and on Sunday Soul Merchants, Dawn Savage Band, Nameless in August and Slim Forsythe.
[naviga:h3]Butler native’s book honored[/naviga:h3]
Butler native Jim Hollock’s book, “Born To Lose: Stanley Hoss and the Crime Spree That Gripped a Nation,” has been selected for special prominence by the Carnegie summer reading program.
A 1966 Butler High School alumnus, Hollock graduated from Marshall University in 1970 and served with the Peace Corps in Dharapuram, India, followed by a 30-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
“Born To Lose” is available in hard copy and digital format as well as at the Butler Public Library.
