Anthony Cousins

A Prospect man, charged with causing a crash while driving intoxicated and injuring another person, pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Tuesday.

Anthony Cousins, 25, entered guilty pleas to felony aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and misdemeanor DUI before county Judge Timothy McCune.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 12 to 30 months in Butler County Prison, followed by 36 months probation, a $1,500 fine, 100 hours of community service and restitution. He is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 31.

The agreement also leaves discretion up to the judge in running this sentence either consecutive or concurrent to Cousins' first DUI case, where he was sentenced to 72 hours to six months in county prison in June, following a drugged driving arrest on Dec. 6 on Route 356 in Jefferson Township.

In that incident, troopers said they found five empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, three hypodermic needles and a drug-cooking spoon in Cousins' SUV.

In the March incident, Cousins was initially charged with felony aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, four misdemeanor counts of DUI controlled substance and summary reckless driving after an incident in Penn Township on March 16.

Penn Township Police charged him April 26, following a head-on crash that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said they suspect Cousins was high on cocaine and opiates about 1 p.m. March 16 when his sport utility vehicle slammed into an oncoming Jeep on Route 8.

The other driver, 60-year-old Kenneth Fry of Butler, suffered serious injury as a result of the crash. According to the prosecution, Cousins drove his vehicle across the center median into oncoming traffic, hitting the other vehicle head-on.

He continues to be held in Butler County Prison on $50,000 cash bail.
