A Butler man, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for robbery and assault, was granted early parole in Butler County Court on Monday.

Zachariah A. Swann, 27, was paroled by county Judge Timothy McCune, after filing a motion on his own behalf. McCune ordered Swann's release pending the execution of a parole plan.

Parole was granted after Swann testified that he has remained “misconduct free” at the prison, and had surpassed his minimum incarceration date.

“I have done everything to be done with this plea,” he said.

Swann was incarcerated in the Butler County Prison on two cases, where he pleaded guilty to two felony counts of criminal attempt to aggravated assault, one count of felony robbery, misdemeanor simple assault and relation against a victim or witness.

He was sentenced March 16, 2017, with time served since his arrest on Dec. 14, 2015. The robbery charges stem from an incident on Dec. 13, 2015, when Swann stole a purse from a Butler woman outside the Monroe Hotel in Butler.

Butler police said Swann grabbed the woman around the neck and stole the purse, before brandishing a large knife and waving it at several Good Samaritans, cutting one man. He was eventually tackled and held down until police arrived, according to court documents.

The assault and retaliation charges stem from a Dec. 18, 2015, incident, when Butler County detectives say he sucker-punched and beat another inmate, Jason R. Stine, 36, of Pittsburgh, at the Butler County Prison. The jailhouse beat-down, captured on surveillance video, was apparently in retaliation for Stine testifying against a friend of Swann's during a murder trial in Allegheny County. Stine, who was jailed on charges in two burglaries in Butler, suffered a bloody nose that required treatment by the prison medical staff.
