Butler Township Police say Nicholas Evanko of Butler and a passenger in his vehicle both suffered minor injuries Wednesday when Evanko's car hit a fire hydrant on North Main Street Extension.

BUTLER TWP — Township police are investigating an accident in which a driver wrecked on North Main Street Extension, damaging a fire hydrant Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of a Honda sedan, whom police identified today as Nicholas Evanko, 28, of Butler, hit the hydrant on the east side of North Main Street Extension in front of North Main Street Church of God around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

No other vehicles were involved. The hydrant was damaged, but not leaking water.

Township police said both Evanko and a male passenger in the car suffered minor injuries. The police investigation is ongoing.

The Butler City and Mercer Road fire departments responded to the call.
