Robert Lynn Pennington

Robert Lynn Pennington, 93, of West Middlesex, Pa., passed away Wednesday morning at the Countryside Convalescent Skilled Nursing Home.

Born May 9, 1923, in Sugarcreek, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas and Olive Hohn Pennington.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 66 years, the former Hazel A. Elliott, who he married Nov. 11, 1950.

Robert retired as a metal fabricator for Lake Park Tool Die. He was a member of St. James Church.

For two and a half years, Robert served in the 45th Thunderbird Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the invasions of Anzio, Italy, and Southern France. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, five Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead.

Robert was a member of the VFW Post 6233 and a lifetime member of the NRA. Robert was an avid hunter, gardener and musician. He was one of the founders of the New Castle Country Music Club and Good Old Boys Band. Robert sang on the local radio station with his sister.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his children, Ronald Pennington of Portersville and Elaine Lombardo and her husband, Gerald, of New Castle; his sister, Lucille Sheldon of Boardman, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jay Lombardo of Ocala, Fla., Michael Lombardo and his wife, Michele, of Clarksville, Tenn., Michelle Lombardo of New Castle and Rob Lombardo of Wasilla, Ala.; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Wasko and Ethel Rovito; and his brothers, Gerald Pennington, Norman Pennington, James Pennington and Donnie Pennington.

PENNINGTON — Visitation for Robert Lynn Pennington, who died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road.A procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home to attend a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church.
