Road funds given
Butler County municipalities will be getting a bit more money from the state this year to help fix their roads.
Overall, the state will be disbursing nearly $21 million more this year than the $445 million it distributed in 2016. The money, which represents a 5-percent increase from 2016, is being released to municipalities starting today.
This year, Butler County will receive nearly $8 million, an increase of more than $360,000 from what was received in 2016.
Liquid fuels taxes fund annual payments to municipalities to help pay for such expenses as snow removal and road repaving.
The money comes from a state tax on the sale of fuel.
The top five municipalities in Butler County for 2017 according to liquid fuels tax allocations are:
Cranberry Township — $909,271
Butler Township — $608,586
Adams Township — $435,669
Butler City — $416,419
Center Township — $336,514
All 33 townships, 23 boroughs and the city of Butler got money through the liquid fuels tax program.
