CRANBERRY TWP — A Westmoreland County brother-and-sister duo made the township Lowe’s one stop on an alleged spree.

Police say Daniel H. Powell, 32, and Danielle L. Powell, 39, both of Herminie, entered Lowe’s on the afternoon of Nov. 13 with no merchandise.

They selected a five-gallon bucket of Valspar Reserve paint valued at about $233 and placed it in a shopping cart.

Danielle Powell then went to the customer service area and made a fraudulent return on the paint without a receipt for store credit. She presented Daniel Powell’s driver’s license and was given a money card.

The siblings then left the store.

Lowe’s records indicate Danielle Powell has fraudulently returned more than $2,274 worth of merchandise to area Lowe’s stores on 16 different occasions since September.

Warrants were issued for their arrests soon afterward and charges were filed on Jan. 5.

They each face felony charges of conspiracy to commit theft and knowingly using an altered device. They also face misdemeanor charges of retail theft, receiving stolen property and theft by deception.

Both were released on their own recognizance after waiving their charges to county court, where they will be arraigned on March 21.
