CRANBERRY TWP — Police say a Pittsburgh man with a history of writing bad checks was at it again at Costco.

Alvin R. Simmons, 57, allegedly visited Costco Feb. 18, 2016, and purchased a Samsung tablet bundle for about $297 using a check from a Citizens Bank account.

He returned to Costco Feb. 22 to purchase a 40-inch LED television for about $297 with another check from the same Citizens Bank account.

These checks were later found to be from a closed account.

Simmons was sent a letter in October to make compensation for the bad checks. However, it was later returned as being undelivered.

Simmons’ criminal record shows 24 documented arrests for bad checks and eight convictions, three of those convictions occurring in the past five years. He is currently on probation with Beaver County for a bad check conviction in 2014.

Costco suffered a monetary loss of about $651, which included the stolen items and fees associated with having the checks returned.

Simmons had his charges held for county court Friday, including one felony count of accessing a device that was closed and misdemeanor counts of theft by deception, receiving stolen property and writing bad checks.

He will be arraigned in county court March 21.
