A Butler man is behind bars on felony and other charges after he allegedly kicked a state trooper in the head at a city home Friday.

Richard J. Ealy, 25, of Butler also allegedly struggled with officers during the incident Friday evening at the home on West Quarry Street.

Ealy was later arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Police said they were looking for the defendant in connection with a suspected domestic dispute Thursday afternoon at Sunbury Estates in Center Township.

During that incident, according to court documents, he had gotten into an altercation with Alora G. Southworth, 25, of Butler that left both of them with minor injuries.

Later, police said, it was discovered that Southworth has a protection from abuse order against Ealy. Police noted that while the PFA allows the suspect to have contact with Southworth, he is barred from abusing, harassing or threatening her.

Police charged Ealy with indirect criminal contempt for violating the protective order, and began looking for him.

About 5:30 p.m. Friday, troopers found him at the West Quarry Street home. But when the officers tried to arrest him, he allegedly resisted.

He eventually ended on the ground, documents said, and kicked Trooper Cody Spangler in the left side of the head.

A Butler police officer eventually got there and helped in the arrest.
