Tammy Felbaum

GREENSBURG, Westmoreland County — A transgender woman previously convicted of causing her husband’s death by castrating him in their Marion Township home was charged Monday with threatening to shoot a Westmoreland County judge.

The affidavit states Tammy Felbaum, 59, who now lives in Seward, went to the courthouse for a civil court hearing before Judge Chris Scherer when she claimed to have weapons in her purse while going through a metal detector around 10:50 a.m.

According to the affidavit, “Felbaum placed a purse on the conveyor belt of the X-ray machine … saying ‘I have guns and an Uzi in my purse, also a rocket launcher.’ Felbaum with an attitude walking through the metal detector machine area said ‘I am going to shoot a judge today.’”

The affidavit states she uttered obscenity-laden comments when asked why she made the threats.

Felbaum is charged with terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. She is jailed in Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The Westmoreland civil court hearing reportedly was for a case filed by the Seward/St. Clair Township Sanitary Authority against Felbaum for failing to connect her house to a sanitary sewer line.

Felbaum was born a man, but underwent a sex change operation.

Tammy Felbaum was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of medicine in December 2001 in the death of her husband, James Felbaum, 40.

She was incarcerated for more than a decade.

Among her more recent criminal cases in Westmoreland County, she was convicted of cruelty to animals and public drunkenness.
