Third-grade students at Butler Catholic School were recently asked to write about what Valentine's Day means to them and what they think love tastes, smells and sounds like. The Eagle received submissions from Maria Cosme and Kate Jordan's third-grade classes. Here is what some of the students said. On Feb. 14, I get to school and set up my Valentine's box for our class party. We do some class work, eat lunch and do some more work. Finally, at the end of the day the party starts. We pass out Valentine's candy, play games and have a Valentine's snack. Once the day is over, we go home and I open my Valentine's from my friends. That's how I celebrate Valentine's Day!!!

My favorite thing about Valentine's Day are handing out cards to other people. I like writing in the cards and handing them out to my family. Every morning I always say, “Happy Valentine's Day.” In the afternoon, my mom always gets my brothers and me chocolates and we only get to eat like one or two. That's what I like about Valentine's Day.

What Valentine's Day means to me is to be nice, kind and have fun. On valentine's Day I try to be as nice as possible. At school if someone is mean to me I just ignore them. At school we have a party and we play mini games, have snacks and pass out candy. At home we go to my grandma's house. Then we all eat together. That's what Valentine's Day means to me.

My favorite things about Valentine's Day are the party at Butler Catholic School and sharing. What I like about the party are the games. Sometimes we get to go into groups and play a lot of games. The last thing I like about the party is the candy. There are all different kinds of candy. The candy is so good and so sweet. I also like sharing because everyone gets a turn and everyone is happy. That is what I like about Valentine's Day.
