Gladys “Gladie” Irene Glenn
Gladys “Gladie” Irene Glenn, 80, of Volant, Plain Grove Township, passed away Saturday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City, following an extended illness.
She was born March 27, 1936, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa., to Miles and Pearl McClintock Tobias. She grew up in Marysville, Pa., with siblings Pearl, Paul, Charles, Donald and Miles Tobias Jr.
She graduated from Perry Joint High School in New Bloomfield, Pa., in 1953. Gladie took employment at Daily Express Trucking Co. in Carlisle where she met her husband T. Richard “Dick” Glenn in 1974.
Dick taught Gladie how to drive tractor-trailer trucks, the “18-wheeler,” and it didn't take Gladie long to tell Dick she could do it. They traveled across the country as a truck driving team for Daily Express from 1974 to 2006. They traveled over 4 million miles together spending every day together. They retired in 2006. Gladie loved spending time with her family and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia.
Survivors include her loving husband of 42 years, T. Richard at home; two brothers, Paul (Carrol) Tobias of New Bloomfield, Pa., and Don (Kathy) Tobias of Spanaway, Wash.; three sons, Darrell (Sharon) Wolf of Shermansdale, Pa., Ronald (Sheryl) Mell Jr. and Russell (Will) Mell, and one daughter, Sheri Mell (Gary) Motter, all of Carlisle, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Kim Glenn (Michael) Prokop of Volant; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles and Miles Tobias Jr.; and her sister, Pearl Tobias Camerdon.
GLENN — Family of Gladys “Gladie” Irene Glenn, who died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, will receive friends from 10 until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 626 Plain Grove Road, Slippery Rock.A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Stanley Keehlwetter, pastor of the church, presiding.Memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Pittsburgh. www.lls.org
