INDIANA — Derek Vandevort of Ellwood City was honored at commencement exercises at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average during his academic career.

Vandevort graduated with a degree in accounting. He was a member of Golden Key International Honor Society and the Student Accounting Association.

He is a 2009 graduate of Lincoln High School and the son of Tammy Erkman of Ellwood City and Dean Vandervort of Ellwood City.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Jeffrey Berger of Cranberry Township was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi at Brenau University.

This month, Berger received a master’s degree of business administration in management.

He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Anna Wilson of Sarver earn a financial award for the 2016-2017 academic year from The University of Mount Union.

Wilson, an early childhood education major, received the Trustee Scholarship. It is a renewable scholarship.

Wilson is an early childhood education major. She is a 2016 graduate of Freeport High School and the daughter of Rob and Denise Wilson.

MONACA — Robert Marshal of Aliquippa, a student at the Community College of Beaver County, was named the recipient of the 2016-2017 James Regal Aviation Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded yearly in memory of James Regal, a Slippery Rock High School, CCBC and Slippery Rock University graduate, who was killed in a 2005 plane crash.

The scholarship is awarded through the aviation department at CCBC.

INDIANA, Pa. — Rachel Grubbs of Sarver was selected for the Robert and Ruth O’Connor Scholarship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She is a child development and family relations major and a dean’s list student. She also was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Grubbs is a 2011 graduate of Freeport High School and the daughter of Lisa Grubbs and Scott Grubbs.

JACKSON TWP — After their November auditions, 49 Seneca Valley High School students were selected for the 126 member 2016 Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) District 5 Honors Band. This was a record for Seneca Valley.
