Butler's Beveridge wins Tri-State meet
Noah Beveridge ran a time of 16 minutes, 34 seconds to place first for Butler at the Tri-State Invitational cross country meet Thursday at California (Pa.) University.
Seneca Valley had two runners finish in the top 10.
Sam Owori was third with a time of 16:55 and Seth Ketler was fifth at 17:18.
Mars' Zach Leachman was fourth (17:03).
The Seneca Valley boys team finished second behind winner North Allegheny. Butler was third.
On the girls side, Butler's Maggie Welty placed third with a time of 19:31.
Seneca Valley had two runners in the top 10: Megan Aaron was fourth (20:59) and Abby Lizewski was ninth (21:38).
The Raiders were second as a team behind North Allegheny. Butler was fourth.
KSAC meet — Karns City's Rebecca Pennington finished with a time of 20:30 to place first at the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference cross country championships at Cranberry.
Moniteau had two runners in the top 10: Kendall Grossman was seventh (22.36) and Samantha Hall ninth (23:02).
The Warriors finished second behind winner Cranberry. The Gremlins finished third.
John Hovanec of Moniteau was the top local placer in the boys meet, finishing 26th (21:02).
Boys Soccer
Ryan Davie scored a pair of goals to lead Slippery Rock to a 4-3 win over Kennedy Catholic.
Chase Baxa and Nick Stutz also scored for the Rockets (14-3).
Girls Soccer
Hannah Knoll scored three goals and Megan McCartney added two goals and four assists to lead Karns City to a 10-0 rout of Kennedy Catholic.
Haley Scherer and Kaylee Smith also scored a pair of goals and Collette Stahlman also found the net for Karns City.
Volleyball
Sarah Armahizer had 24 kills as Knoch rallied from a two-set deficit against Shaler to win 16-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20, 19-17.
Bethany Nulff added eight kills, Kennedy Christy eight kills and seven blocks and Alley Kerkan 15 service points for the Knights (14-2).
Butler 3, Franklin Regional 1 — Julia Gibson and Caitlin Martin each had 11 kills to lead the Golden Tornado to a 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-18 win.
Erin Fullerton also had nine kills and eight digs for Butler, which ended the season 6-8.
Union 3, Clarion-Limestone 0 — Frankee Remmick had nine kills, four digs and three aces to lead Union to a 25-10, 25-15, 25-9 sweep.
Hannah Atzeni added 24 assists for the Damsels.
Karns City 3, Moniteau 1 — Mackenzie Craig tallied 13 kills, 11 assists and four service aces Wednesday in Karns City's 3-1 win over Moniteau. Game scores were 25-23, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-14.
Brooke Snow contributed seven kills, Makayla Waltman and Emily Hegedus six each. Brooke Moore had 14 assists.
The Gremlins finished the regular season 6-6 and have qualified for the District 9 playoffs.
