School leader leaves
CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau School Board on Monday night accepted the resignation of Superintendent George Svolos, pending the school board solicitor’s review and approval of a final agreement.
District business manager John D’Amore was approved as acting superintendent.
School solicitor Andrea Parenti said other information related to Svolos’ resignation is still confidential.
The board hired Svolos in October 2010.
He has been away from the school for the past two weeks and did not attend the school board meetings on Sept. 26 or Monday night.
Other administrators and school board members reported that Svolos was on vacation.
D’Amore’s appointment is effective immediately. He also served as acting superintendent in 1999 and in 2010.
D’Amore said he will maintain the status quo until the board hires a new superintendent.
“We have good students, good staff, good administrators and good board members,” D’Amore said. “My role is to help facilitate interactions between groups involved in the district during the transition.”
