CRANBERRY TWP — A township man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly threatening to kill his father with a power tool.

Jonathan R. Creel, 25, is facing simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment charges from an incident Sunday morning at his home on Willow Drive.

Township police were dispatched to the house at 3:02 a.m.

John Creel told officers that his son had assaulted him earlier in the night, according to court records.

The father and son were having an argument when Jonathan Creel allegedly removed his father’s prosthetic leg and tossed it into another room. He then allegedly shoved his father to the floor, straddled him and held a jig saw to his throat, while threatening to kill him, records said.

The victim was allegedly left lying on the floor without his leg or his cell phone for about 45 minutes. He told police that he waited until his son had gone to sleep before calling 911.

Police reported seeing visible scrapes and scratches on his face, nose and neck.

Creel was arraigned later Sunday morning. He is free on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Friday in district court.

He also was arrested in February in Adams Township and charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance. In May he was placed in a 12-month accelerated rehabilitative disposition program for that offense, according to court records.
