Zelienople essay winners announcedZELIENOPLE — Hanna Behr, 17, and Trey Razanauskas, 17, both seniors at Seneca Valley High School, won the first Zelienople Park Essay Scholarship Competition.Hanna is the daughter of Shelley and Jeff Behr of Zelienople. The Behr family will receive at least $48,000 for the college education of their two high-school-age children.Trey is the son of Michael Razanauskas and March Creeks of Zelienople. The family will receive at least $24,000 for the college education of their high-school-age son.The students’ essay topic was why it is important to have a park association and what it does for families.The Fred Solman Northwood Real Estate Group, sponsor for the competition, worked with the Zelienople Community Park and Arizona-based The Power of Working Together, an organization that helps students and their families with the planning process and funding for college.Five individuals from the community judged the more than 30 essays submitted.
College freshmen gain scholarshipsYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The following Youngstown State University freshmen received scholarships for the fall 2016 semester in recognition of their academic excellence:Jordan Hazy of Zelienople, a Seneca Valley High School graduate and a music education vocal major, received a First Opportunity Award.Katie Liebler of Butler, a Butler High School graduate and a hospitality management major, received a First Opportunity Award.AnnMarie Lowerre of Butler, a Butler High School graduate and a theater and music theater major, received a Deans’ Scholarship, an Honors Program Scholarship and an Honors Housing Scholarship.Andrew Morro of Mars, a Grand River Academy High School graduate and a music performance major, received a President’s Scholarship, an Honors Program Scholarship and an Honors Housing Scholarship.Kendall Orris of Saxonburg, a Knoch High School graduate and STEM first year engineering major, received a Deans’ Scholarship, an Honors Program Scholarship and an Honors Housing Scholarship.Anna Rashid of Butler, a Butler High School graduate and STEM first year engineering major, received a Red and White Scholarship.Rachell Rottman of Chicora, a Karns City High School graduate and premedical laboratory science major, received a President’s Scholarship, an Honors Program Scholarship and an Honors Housing Scholarship.William Thompson of Mars, a North Allegheny High School graduate and pre business major, received a First Opportunity Award.
