FAIRVIEW TWP — A woman escaped serious injury when a large tree broke through her car’s windshield Thursday night.

Chief Cody Craig of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department said the woman, whose name was unavailable, was eastbound on Chicora Road when the tree fell on her Dodge Intrepid. She was the only person in the vehicle.

“It shattered the windshield and bent the roof,” he said. “She was very lucky.”

Craig said the weight of the tree pinned the doors, trapping the woman inside.

After being dispatched 11:15 p.m., firefighters used a chain saw to cut the tree, so the driver could be extricated.

Craig said the woman sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment.

The road was closed while the woman was being freed. One lane was then opened to alternating traffic.

Butler Ambulance assisted Chicora. Crews cleared the scene at 12:19 a.m. Friday.
