CLEARFIELD TWP — State police say they don’t expect to charge a 15-year-old boy who reportedly ran into the woods near his family’s mobile home with a knife following a domestic dispute Wednesday morning.

The altercation that began between 8 and 9 a.m. at the Paradise Estates trailer park on Dalmagro Road in Clearfield Township touched off a search for the teen, police said.

The search, during which police used a helicopter, ended shortly after noon when the boy gave himself up without incident. No one was injured.

“It’s a good ending,” said police Cpl. Scott Kemling. “He’s fine and we’re moving on.”

Police released few details about their investigation and they did not identify the boy, who was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, investigators said.

The incident apparently began when the boy clashed with family members.

Police said they did not immediately know if the teen lived with his mother or any other relatives at the trailer park.

Kemling said he was unable to confirm reports that the boy slashed the tires of vehicles at his family’s home during the altercation.

At some point, the youth ran into the woods. Neighbors, who declined to comment, heard the commotion and notified authorities.

Police were told the boy had a knife, before they started looking for him.

Kemling said the youth’s family assisted police in the search.

“We eventually made arrangements where he could come out,” Kemling said. He would not elaborate.

He said the boy was “pretty calm” when taken into custody.

The teen did not have a knife and police did not recover any other weapon.
