Three vehicles were destroyed by a fire Monday in the parking lot of Hartman's Firestone on Route 19 in Cranberry Township.

CRANBERRY TWP — A malfunctioning vehicle caused a three-vehicle fire Monday in the parking lot of an auto repair business.

No one was hurt, but three vehicles were destroyed and a fourth was damaged.

The Ford F-250 was being dropped off at Hartman's Firestone on Route 19 by its owner Monday afternoon, said Rick Hartman, owner of the business.

The business was closed for Labor Day, but the man had an appointment for Tuesday and was going to leave his key there in a drop box, he said.

As the man was backing into a spot, his son noticed that there were flames coming from underneath the hood.

“They got out just in the nick of time,” he said.

Hartman said he was not sure what the problem with the truck was, but it may have had a leaking fuel injector, which would explain why it caught on fire so quickly.

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company responded with 15 firefighters around 1:15 p.m. The truck was fully involved and the burning had spread to an SUV and a car that were parked next to it, according to a post on the fire department's website.

They contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other vehicles in the lot, though another car suffered paint damage.

The burned vehicles were still on the lot Tuesday morning, though a tow company was working on removing them.
