Steelers pick up QB, sources say
The Pittsburgh Steelers have picked up quarterback Zach Mettenberger off waivers, CBS sports and ESPN are reporting
Mettenberger, who was drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, was waived by the San Diego Chargers this week. The Chargers had claimed Mettenberger off waivers after he was release, in May, by the Tennessee Titans.
Mettenberger had started 10 games over two seasons with the Titans, going 0-10 and throwing 14 interceptions and 12 touchdowns. He will be third on the team's depth chart behind starter Ben Rothlisberger and backup Landry Jones.
The team has been in search of a third string quarterback since a hamstring injury resulted in veteran Bruce Gradkowski being placed on injured reserve. The team also placed second year quarterback Dustin Vaughn on IR with a thumb injury, according to ESPN.
